THERMAL TESTING OF ENGINE INTAKE MANIFOLDS: CETM-50/3200e TEMPERATURE TEST CHAMBER

A major engineering firm sought to integrate a thermal testing system to evaluate material fatigue, structural integrity, and gasket performance under conditions of accelerated thermal aging for engine intake manifolds. Intake manifolds—whether made of plastic or metal—are subjected to extreme conditions under the hood, including thermal cycling, rapid temperature fluctuations, pressure changes, and vibration. A failure in the material or a breach in the seal can lead to performance loss, air/fuel leaks, or even serious engine damage. Validating their performance prior to mass production is a critical and essential step.

The requirements specified were:
👉 Large internal volume.
👉 Ergonomic design.
👉 A test range of -40 ºC to +130 ºC.
👉 Temperature change rates (gradients) of 2 K/min for both cooling and heating, accounting for the thermal mass and heat dissipation of three aluminum test samples.
👉 Additional safety features for a glycol-based system.

OUR SOLUTION: The DYCOMETAL CETM-50/3200e-2P thermal test chamber. This model is specifically designed to accommodate three samples in parallel, utilizing three reinforced shelves. Its internal dimensions—1000 x 1600 x 2000 mm (H x W x D)—allow for ergonomic positioning of the samples, with ample space for external system connections routed through four 150 mm access ports. The entire process is managed via an advanced controller and its associated software.
