Our client, a leading manufacturer of piping for the fluid transport sector, wanted to temper hydrogen pipes during tensile testing to evaluate the behavior of the samples under both the forces they endured and at extreme temperatures. For this, they needed a chamber capable of reaching extreme temperatures and perfectly compatible with their existing tensile testing machine.

The required specifications were:

OUR SOLUTION: Our CETM-70/156Te thermal testing chamber is adapted to the customer's existing tensile testing machine and features a chamber extraction system for testing with or without thermal conditioning. It includes a large, highly transparent front and side viewing window. Removable top and bottom ports allow for chamber removal without loosening clamps. All controls are managed via a touchscreen and remote control software, which can be connected to the customer's tensile testing system.

Temperature test chamber for tensile tension tests with extreme temperature range, CETM-70/128e

Universal testing machines (UTMs) are used to evaluate the mechanical behaviour of materials and components through tests such as tensile, compression, flexure or fatigue. However, many materials – such as polymers, elastomers, special metals or composites – exhibit highly temperature-dependent properties. This is where our thermal test chambers come into play. These chambers are an indispensable solution in R&D laboratories, quality control or in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, energy or biomaterials.

The CETM-70/128e model has been adapted to the selected tensile machine, adjusting the width of the chamber to the width between columns. The height of the chamber was set at 800 mm in order to be able to test both small and large specimens. The chamber has a heating system that allows it to reach temperature ranges of up to +300潞C and a cryogenic system that allows it to reach lower values of -70潞C. The equipment has an observation window, as well as LED lighting projected on the interior. In order to move the chamber without the need to unscrew it, two U-shaped ports were installed at the top and bottom. All of this is controlled by a microprocessor and control and recording software.

CLIMATIC GENERATOR FOR TENSILE TESTS, CCKg-30/45

Universal tensile testing machines are often used for tensile testing and the tests often require a thermal or climatic conditioning system to perform the tests under controlled temperature conditions. These machines are usually manufactured with a liquid nitrogen cooling system, which is a costly system to maintain in the long run, as nitrogen is a consumable. This is why many customers ask us for compressor cooling systems, in order to reduce costs over time.

Such as our CCKg-30/45 system, a system built in two parts: an external climatic generator and a test enclosure designed specifically for the customer’s traction machine. The system was also manufactured entirely in stainless steel at the customer’s request.

TEMPERATURE TEST CHAMBER WITHOUT LIQUID NITROGEN FOR TENSILE MACHINES. MODEL, CETM-30/182e

There are different cooling options within the climatic chambers, one of them based on the use of liquid nitrogen as a refrigerant, but this system is not very cost-effective as it always has a consumable, which is why mechanical systems provide a more economical option in the long run over the cooling of a climatic chamber used in traction machines.

The CETM-30/182e model was designed to fit into the free space between columns of the tensile machine, complying with the customer's test specifications taking into account the mass to be introduced into the equipment.

EXTERNAL CLIMATIC CONDITIONING UNIT FOR PEELING/TENSILE TESTS. MODEL: CCKg-40/32T

Universal testing machines (UTM) are designed to test the mechanical properties of different materials. The tests performed on them can be diverse, such as: tensile, compression, bending, peeling or tearing.  These climatic tests can be performed under controlled climatic conditions of temperature and humidity.

The CLIMATIC EXTERNAL CONDITIONING UNIT, CCKg-40/32T model, in a system that has been specifically designed to be introduced inside a very limited space of columns where there cannot be a technical area at the back inside the chamber. It is cooled mechanically, without the need for liquid nitrogen.

The system is complemented with a height-adjustable extractor trolley, to facilitate the removal of the chamber in case the chamber is not needed for the test.

CLIMATIC TEST CHAMBER TO COMBINE WITH TENSILE MACHINES , MODEL: CCK-25/85e.


The tensile tests of the materials or samples consist of subjecting a standardized sample to an increasing axial tensile stress until its rupture occurs. This test measures the resistance of a material to a static or slowly applied force. In some cases, the test standards establish that these tests must be carried out under controlled conditions of temperature and humidity. The chamber must be prepared to be able to introduce the jaws so that the sample is inside the workspace itself to be acclimatized.

There are many types and manufacturers of traction machines, so the dimensions of the chambers will be different and will have to be tailored, analysing the space between the columns of the traction machine.
The CCK-25/85e chamber has been manufactured to fit perfectly with a specific traction machine. The oblong pass-walls allow the insertion of the climatic chamber in an easy and simple way. The team also has two sight glasses on the front and side to perform video-extensiometric measurements. The cold group integrated in the chamber itself allows the chamber to be easily installed in the test bench very quickly.
